What are the permissions required to perform various operations using Action Reports?

Solution

Action Reports Framework uses Microsoft Access database (prdb.mdb located at Program Files\Common Files\Entevo Shared\AdvancedFind or Program Files\Common Files\BindView\Action Reports) to store information about pre-defined queries as well as user-saved queries for all the namespaces. Operations related to Action Reports are dependent upon the permissions on this database as well as on the shared folder containing the database.

In order to use Action Reports, the logged-on user must have the following permissions over the folder where Action Report Database (prdb.mdb) resides:
  • Read & Execute: Needed to execute Areport.exe and access other files like prdb.mdb, AFind.chm etc.
  • List Folder Contents: Needed to explore the folder
  • Read: Needed to read the files in the folder i.e. prdb.mdb, help files etc.
  • Write: Needed to create files in the folder. This is required since when the database is accessed the lock file prdb.ldb is created in that folder.

Invoking RMB menus from console:
The RMB menu for Action Reports will be available only if the logged-on user has the required permissions over the shared folder (as explained in one of the previous sections). In addition he should have Read and Write permissions over the prdb.mdb database.

Launching the reports and Wizard:
In order to launch reports and the wizard, the logged-on user must have Read permission over prdb.mdb as well as should have Read & Execute permission over all the executables and dlls under the following folders:
  • Program Files\Common Files\Entevo Shared\AdvancedFind or Program Files\Common Files\BindView\Action Reports
  • Program Files\BindView\bv-Admin or Program Files\BindView\bv-Admin for Windows
  • Program Files\Common Files\Entevo Shared\DirectAdmin or Program Files\Common Files\BindView\bv-Admin

Saving reports:
The logged-on user must have Write permission over prdb.mdb.

Exporting the results:
In order to export the report result the logged-on user must have Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, Read and Write permissions over the destination folder.

Launching the help:
The logged-on user must have Read permission over the respective help files i.e. Afind.chm, ExchFind.chm.
