Issue

CredentialVerifier processes on AIX UNIX agents hang causing excessive CPU utilization

Symptoms
An "Authentication Failed" error may occur.

Cause

Incorrect application and file permission settings of the RFUnpack and CredentialVerifier processes.

Solution

Follow these steps to resolve the issue:

  1. As a UNIX administrator, set the permission to these two process binaries in the /usr/local/BindView/bvcontrol/AIX/bin directory to setuid of rwsr-x. Use the UNIX command "chmod 4750 <filename>".

2. Verify the size of the file. From a command line, type "cd /usr/local/BindView/bvcontrol/AIX/bin" without the quotes. Confirm that the following information matches:

    • -rwsr-x--- 1 root system 684021 Feb 25 14:52 RFUnPack

3. Restart the daemon by running the following command: " /usr/local/BindView/bvcontrol/bvunix.startup restart".
