How to change SQL Server default port setting of 1433 on a client computer

Technical Solution



Use the SQL Server Client Network Utility to change the default port used for SQL communication.
  1. Launch %windir%\System32\cliconfg.exe.
  2. Highlight TCP/IP under the Enabled protocols window.
  3. Click the Properties button.
  4. Enter in the new port number, then click OK.
  5. Restart the computer for the changes to take effect.
