Issue

Symptoms
If an agent was registered without specifying an IP address on a multi-homed server, the following error may occur: "Connection Failed".

Error

failure in establishing connection with Information Server <IS server name>

or

Failed to determine operating system or process

Cause

The agent must be "bound" to a specific IP address that is routable to the Data Collector/Information Server on computers that are multi-homed.

Solution

Run following setup script: ./setup.sh -ip <ip to bind to> in the following directories:

For AIX and Linux: /usr/local/BindView/bvcontrol

For SuSe Linux, Solaris and HP-UX in the following directory: /opt/BindView/bvcontrol

For example:

./setup.sh -lip <is_server_ip>

or

./setup.sh a <is_server_ip> <unix hostname> <userid> <password> -lip <unix_host_ipaddress> -s UNX

A confirmation that the Information server has been updated with the new address will appear, and then the system prompt.
