Problem
Error: "Connection Failed" while registering a UNIX agent on a Linux target computer
Symptoms
The UNIX agent registration does not complete successfully.
- An error appears "The file:.../BindView/bvcontrol/Linux/bin/servername is empty or does not contain key information for that Data Collector."
Cause
Port 1236 is blocked between the Information Server (IS) computer and the target UNIX agent.
Solution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
- Edit iptables on the Linux target computer. Verify that port 1236 is open bi-directionally.
- NOTE: The port must be open from the Linux target computer to the Information Server (IS) and from the IS to the Linux target.
- Restart the iptables service.
- If the iptable is set correctly, then check with your network administrator to determine if tcp port 1236 is blocked by another firewall or network device.
