Issue

After editing the SMC Job Server's config file (BVAssessmentService.exe.config) the SMC Job Server is successfully sent a start control and then immediately enters a stopped state. NOTE: The BVAssessmentService.exe.config file contains configuration settings for the Symantec Control Compliance Suite [CCS] SMC Job Server service, which is BVAssessmentService.exe.

Symptoms

Error: The Symantec SMC Job Server service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Performance Logs and Alerts service.

Cause

The SMC Job Server service's configuration file is not formatted correctly.

Solution

Review the config file (BVAssessmentService.exe.config) to make sure all the xml syntax is correct. Improper syntax will cause the service to crash on start.

Example:

Correct <add key="fileLogLevel" value="Error" />
Incorrect <%add key="fileLogLevel" value="Error" />
