Issue

After upgrading the NS to R12 and the Altiris Agent to 6.0.2406 the SW & HW Inventory and SWD Tasks fail to run when set to "Only run at scheduled time".

At the scheduled time the Altiris Agent UI showed that the Inventory started and it immediately went to a "Run completed" state.

The agent.logs show the following entries:

Description: The SWD task 'Hello World - Sample' Hello World - Sample has missed at scheduled run, removing it from the run queue

The steps to duplicate the issue (using Hello Word as example):

1. Go to Tasks>Software Management>Software Delivery>Windows>Software Delivery Tasks>Hello Word - Sample
2. Enable the policy by checking the 'Enable' check box.
3. Under the Run section,
 a) uncheck 'Run as soon as computer is notified (only runs once)'
 b) check 'Run on a schedule' and select  a schedule to run in a near future
 c) check 'Only run at scheduled time' radio button
4. Apply.
5. Then, under the test machine, update the Client Configuration and you should be able to see the desired package with the selected schedule. in this case the package is called 'Sample Package'
6. When the schedule for the next run is meet, the status doesn't change and the task doesn't run.

Solution

This issue has been addressed in R13.

Below are two workarounds for R12 if an upgrade to R13 is not possible:

1.  Set the SW & HW Inventory and SWD Tasks to "Run 'as soon as possible' after the scheduled time.

2.  Port the R11 version of the AeXSWDAgent.dll back into the R12 client.

Attached is the R11 version of the AeXSWDAgent.dll and a batch file that can be used to deploy this to the R12 clients. The batch file will stop the Altiris agent service, rename the existing dll, copy in this R11 version, register it and restart the services.

If the client is a package server and is running IIS, IIS may have a hold on the dll and won't let it be renamed. IIS will need to be restarted for this to work. You may consider adding an "if exist" statement to the batch file testing for the existence of the AeXNSCPackageServer.dll and run "iisreset" if it exists prior to renaming the file.
