If you attempt to run a task on a 2008 Domain Controller (DC) it will fail, though the same task will work fine on a 2008 member server. Depending on the task, the error may be different, but they all fail immediately before ever reaching the server. For instance, if you are using a script task, it fails immediately, and if you drill down into the task for the reason, you'll see the following error (other task types may differ):
Server Error in '/Altiris/ClientTask' Application.

This is being researched by development.
There is no known resolution at this time. You can try to work-around it by using a policy-based delivery.
However, the problem is no longer present in version 7 of Task Server / Notification Server.
