I have a Microsoft Exchange server with no Internet access, and would like to update the definitions of SMSMSE. What are my options?
- When running LiveUpdate without access to Internet source servers, an error code of LU1814 is returned with the following error message:
LiveUpdate could not retrieve the catalog file of available Symantec Product and component updates. Please verify that you are able to connect to the Internet and run LiveUpdate again.
- When running 6.0.9 or later on a 64-bit system SMSMSE is not staying up to date on its own, even if Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) on the same server is up to date.
Use one of the following options. The list is organized from first choice to last. Use the first option that matches your environment.
Systems not running Symantec Antivirus (SAV) or Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP)
For a one-time update the Symantec Intelligent Updater for 32-bit systems can by used. See the following article for details: How to update definitions for Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange using the Intelligent Updater.
For ongoing updates follow the steps in this document to set up an internal LiveUpdate server: Distributing Virus definitions for Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange via LiveUpdate Administrator 2.x
Systems running SAV/SEP 12.1 or greater
Follow the steps in this document to set up an internal LiveUpdate server: Distributing Virus definitions for Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange via LiveUpdate Administrator 2.x
Systems running SAV/SEP 12.0 or lower
SMSMSE 6.0.9 and later on 64-bit operating system
SMSMSE 6.0.8 and earlier or running SMSMSE 6.0.9 and later on 32-bit system
SMSMSE shares the definitions downloaded by SAV/SEP client. No additional steps are needed. Configure SMSMSE not to download virus definitions using this article: Configuring LiveUpdate when Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange and Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition or Symantec Endpoint Protection are installed together
The optional Rapid Release updates for SMSMSE require FTP access to the internet LiveUpdate source servers. It is not possible to update SMSMSE via Rapid Release without internet access.
