Issue



Symantec Mail Security performance counters collection is enabled by default. The performance counters data is not typically utilized by the administrators. However, the additional CPU processing can generate high I/O activity. Symantec Mail Security 6.5 incorporates a provision to switch off the performance counter data collection via a registry entry.

Data collection of performance counter data can contribute to higher I/O activity


Solution



Performance counter collection is configurable through the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\SMSMSE\6.5\Server\TurnOffPerfCounters

Setting this key to 1 will stop updating perfmon counters.
By Default all mail counters will be automatically be updated.
