The IIS worker process (w3wp.exe) generates a pop-up dialog and writes an entry to the application event log indicating a crash of the w3wp.exe process.

In the application event log the following is observed:

Event ID 1000: Faulting application w3wp.exe, version 6.0.3790.3959, faulting module Davex.dll, version 6.5.7651.61, fault address 0x000689b9

An exception occurred while accessing incorrect parameters passed by Exchange to SMSMSE.

This problem is fixed in Symantec Mail Security 6.5 for Microsoft Exchange.  An exception handler was added for this specific type of incorrect parameter. To learn how to obtain the latest version, read Where to download the latest version of Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange.
