Issue



The RapidFire (RF) Update, RF8634 contains the product and security patch updates.

Symptoms
 

Issue Description: The cksum process was consuming too much memory on the UNIX target computers and killing the process spawned a new one.

Issue Description: The Packages Data Source query run on Sun Solaris 10 cluster/ server returned only 2 packages, with the following error:

"Error executing datasource handler for Agent based target"


 


Solution



Overview

The RapidFire (RF) Update, RF8634 contains the product and security patch updates. This RF fixes the following issues:

· Titan Case ID 220-371-024

Issue Description: The cksum process was consuming too much memory on the UNIX target computers and killing the process spawned a new one.

Fix Description: The product spawned processes due to the presence of a file with zero hard links on the file system on AIX. Such files are now skipped.

· Titan Case ID 312-210-895

Issue Description: The Packages Data Source query run on Sun Solaris 10 cluster/ server returned only 2 packages, with the following error:

"Error executing datasource handler for Agent based target"

Fix Description: Incomplete data was being fetched due to the presence of empty revision strings present in the package description of certain packages on the UNIX target systems. The fix resolves this issue and takes care of empty package revision strings.

Requirements

The requirements for installing the RapidFire RF8634 are as follows:

· You must apply the Cumulative Hotfix (CHF) of Control Compliance Suite 8.60 released on November 2009 (CCS_DataCollectors_8.60_November_2009_Update.exe).
· You must apply RF8600, RF8601, RF8602, RF8606, RF8609, RF8610, RF8614, RF8615, RF8618, RF8619, RF8621, RF8626, RF8627, and RF8633 on the bv-Control for UNIX agent (target computers) before applying RF8634.

      Installing the update

      Before installing the RF8634 RapidFire Update, you must close all the RMS products that are running on the computer.

      To install the RapidFire Update RF8634 perform the following steps:


        1. Copy the RapidFire file RF8634.rf to a known location on the local disk. Do not change the file name.
        2. Launch the RMS® Console.
        3. Expand the bv-Control for UNIX icon located on the left pane tree of the RMS Console.
        4. Right-click RapidFire Updates folder.
        5. Select Add RapidFire from the shortcut menu.
        6. In the File Selection dialog, locate the RapidFire file RF8634.rf saved in step 1.
        7. Select the file and click Open to initiate the RapidFire Update installation process. This RapidFire must be applied on the computers hosting the Information Server only and not on the client computers.

       

      To apply the RapidFire on the UNIX target computers, the RapidFire mechanism supports two options. The first option lets you update all the UNIX target computers at the enterprise level while the second option lets you update the selected UNIX target computers only.

To update all the target computers in the enterprise
Before applying the RapidFire, ensure that there are no queries that are executing on the target computer.
Select the appropriate server group in the product container.
To apply a RapidFire on the selected server group, click the Action>Update RapidFire menu.
From the Select RapidFire Package dialog box, select RF8634.rf.
To update a selected target computer
Before applying the RapidFire, ensure that there are no queries that are executing on the target computer.
Select the UNIX target computer that you want to update.
To apply a RapidFire on the UNIX target computer, click the Action>Update RapidFire menu.
From the Select RapidFire Package dialog box, select RF8634.rf.

Note: Patches for the following UNIX operating systems are not available in the LinuxRecommendedPatches.dat file:

o SUSE Linux 8.0, 8.1, 8.2, 9.0, 9.1, 9.2, and 9.3
o SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 8.1, 9.2, 9.3
