Issue

Symptoms
The RapidFire (RF) Update, RF8627 contains the following update:

· For the multi-NICs computers, bv-Control for UNIX now supports registering multiple physical IP addresses after installing a UNIX agent using the setup.sh utility. A new command line option, -lip (local IPaddress) is added for the setup.sh utility to register multiple IP addresses when installing the UNIX agent.

The command to register multiple IP addresses to a UNIX agent is as follows:

· Without Resource Credentials:

./setup.sh -c [Information Server Name] [Machine Description] [-s ] [-lip ]

· With Resource Credentials:

./setup.sh -a [Information Server Name] [Machine Description] [Resource Name] [Resource Password] [-s ] [-lip ]

The command to delete the multiple IP addresses registrations made using the -lip option is as follows:

· ./setup.sh -d [Information Server Name] [-s ] [-lip ]

The command to notify the Information Server about the change in the IP addresses is as follows:

· ./setup.sh -n [Information Server Name] [-lip -olip ]
where,
"local-ip-address" is the local IP address of the UNIX agent that is used for registration, deletion, or IP Propagation, and
"old-local-ip-address" is the local IP address of the UNIX agent before changing to the new IP address

The known issues and the workarounds for this update are as follows:

· Additional Information Server

Requests from any additional Information Server might fail if you register the UNIX agent using the -lip command line option of the setup.sh utility. The workaround for this issue is to manually register the additional Information Server for the UNIX agent.

· Upgrading to CCS 9.0
If you do not have any default registrations (i.e., you have agent registrations using the -lip option only) for the UNIX agent and you upgrade to CCS 9.0 using the upgrade RapidFire Updates, rf9000, then the queries fail. The workaround for this issue is to again perform the default registrations for the UNIX agent and then upgrade the agent using the RapidFire Updates, rf9000. Ensure that you perform the default registrations for the UNIX agent from the Information Server on which the rf9000 is applied.

Solution

Overview

Requirements

The requirements for installing the RapidFire RF8627 are as follows:

· You must apply the Cumulative Hotfix (CHF) of Control Compliance Suite 8.60 released on July 2009 (CCS_DataCollectors_8.60_July_2009_Update.exe).
· You must apply RF8600, RF8601, RF8602, RF8606, RF8609, RF8610, RF8614, RF8615, RF8618, RF8619, RF8621, and RF8626 on the bv-Control for UNIX agent (target computers) before applying RF8627.

Installing the update

Before installing the RF8627 RapidFire Update, you must close all the RMS products that are running on the computer.

To install the RapidFire Update RF8627 perform the following steps:

1. Copy the RapidFire file RF8627.rf to a known location on the local disk. Do not change the file name.
2. Launch the RMS® Console.
3. Expand the bv-Control for UNIX icon located on the left pane tree of the RMS Console.
4. Right-click RapidFire Updates folder.
5. Select Add RapidFire from the shortcut menu.
6. In the File Selection dialog, locate the RapidFire file RF8627.rf saved in step 1.
7. Select the file and click Open to initiate the RapidFire Update installation process. This RapidFire must be applied on the computers hosting the Information Server only and not on the client computers.

To apply the RapidFire on the UNIX target computers, the RapidFire mechanism supports two options. The first option lets you update all the UNIX target computers at the enterprise level while the second option lets you update the selected UNIX target computers only.

1. To update all the target computers in the enterprise
· Select the appropriate server group in the product container.
· To apply a RapidFire on the selected server group, click the Action>Update RapidFire menu.
· From the Select RapidFire Package dialog box, select RF8627.rf.
2. To update a selected target computer
· Select the UNIX target computer that you want to update.
· To apply a RapidFire on the UNIX target computer, click the Action>Update RapidFire menu.
· From the Select RapidFire Package dialog box, select RF8627.rf.
