Backup of remote server, the error "0xe000fe30 - A communications failure has occurred" is returned in the failed job log.

Error

Running a backup of a remote server will fail with the error:

"0xe000fe30 - A communications failure has occurred"

Running the job with debug enabled on the remote server shows the following entry:

BETCPListener::ListenOnAvailablePort: Could not listen on protocol IPv4, port #####: An error occurred while listening on a socket: Error Code: 10013, System Error Message: An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions.

Solution

1.  Select Tools | Options | Network and Security
2.  If no firewall exists between the servers, deselect "Enable remote agent TCP dynamic port range" to utilize all available ports.
3.  If firewall exists between the servers, enter a minimum of 50 ports in "Enable remote agent TCP dynamic port range" that corresponds with the open port range on the firewall.

This will resolve the issue.
