Backup Exec backups of a Windows 2008 R2 Hyper-v host crashes the Hyper-V host on symsnap.sys if Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 is also installed on the Hyper-V host

Solution



This has been reported on Windows 2008 R2 hosts. The blue screen is caused by an issue with the way the Microsoft VSS Framework handles the injection of 3rd party Universal Plug and Play drivers. A fix is due out from Microsoft which is supposed to address the issue.

Workaround:

To avoid this issue, configure the Backup Exec for Windows Servers job to use the System VSS Provider rather than the automatic settings. The can be found under the 'Advance Open File Option' settings under the job configuration (Figure 1):
