Solution

The above mentioned problem has now been fixed by way of a hotfix in Backup Exec 2010. Please refer the Related Documents section for more information.

Workaround:

A. Modify the Regional Language settings on the Backup Exec server, so that the User Locale matches the System Locale.

For Backup Exec servers running Windows 2003/Windows XP

1. Login to the Backup Exec server with the same account as the Backup Exec service account (same account as is being used by the Backup Exec Server service)

2. Go to Start ->Control  Panel -> Regional and Language Options.

3. Check for the language setting selected under the "Regional Options" tab and the "Advanced" tab. If the languages selected do not match, then change the language under the "Regional Options" tab so that it matches that as the one selected in the "Advanced tab". (Figure 1)

Figure 1:

4. Re-run the Backup Exec Database maintenance. The Backup Exec Server service should not terminate anymore.

For Backup Exec servers running Windows 2008 and higher.

1. Login to the Backup Exec server with the same account as the Backup Exec service account (same account as is being used by the Backup Exec Server service)

2. Go to Start ->Control  Panel -> Clock, Language and Region -> Region and Language.

3. Check for the language setting selected under the "Formats" tab and the "Administrative" tab. If the languages selected do not match, then change the language under the "Regional Options" tab so that it matches that as the one selected in the "Advanced tab". (Figure 2)

4. Re-run the Backup Exec Database maintenance. The Backup Exec Server service should not terminate anymore.

B. If the Workaround A does not work then follow the suggestions mentioned below:

Set the Backup Exec Server Service to restart automatically.

  • Go to Services.
  • Select the Backup Server Service and click Properties
  • Select the 'Recovery' tab
  • For 'First Failure' please select "Restart the Service".
