Technical Solution

With Symantec System Recovery Management Solution (SSR-MS), it's currently not possible to individually backup the Windows 2008 R2 / Windows 7 System Reserved partition when using the recommended recovery point set backup policy. This functionality is available when creating backups from the Symantec System Recovery (SSR) client.

An 'All drives on selected computers' backup will automatically include the System Reserved partition.

Windows 2008 R2

Windows 7

Workaround #1:

Create an independent recovery point backup policy which allows you to individually select the System Reserved partition (see below).

Workaround #2:
Assign a drive letter to the System Reserved partition.  You can then include it in a "By drive" backup policy.
This issue is fixed in Service Pack 2 (10.0.2) of Symantec System Recovery Management Solution (SSR-MS) 2011 which is available via Symantec Installation Manager (SIM).
