Problem
How to configure SMTP e-mail notifications in the Backup Exec for Small Business Server (SBS) edition Graphical User Interface (GUI) on a Windows 2008 R1/R2 Small Business Server (SBS) Machine.
Solution
Perform the following steps to set up Backup Exec SMTP notifications for Window 2008 R1/R2 Small Business Server (SBS)
I. Enable Anonymous user permissions in Exchange. After placing a check mark in that box, the following permissions are given to the Anonymous Logon group:
- Ms-Exch-SMTP-Submit
- Ms-Exch-SMTP-Accept-Any-Sender
- Ms-Exch-SMTP-Accept-Authoritative-Domain-Sender
- Ms-Exch-Accept-Headers-Routing
1. Open the Exchange Management Console
2. Highlight Server Configuration
3. Highlight HUB Transport
4. Highlight and right-click on "Default SERVERNAME"
5. Go to Permission Groups and set to Anonymous users (see figure 1.)

II. Setup Pager and E-mail Notifications in Backup Exec. (see figure 2.)
1. Open the Backup Exec console
2. Go to Tools > Pager and E-mail Notifications
3. Click on SMTP Configuration tab
4. Check Enable check box
5. Within SMTP mail server: dialog box type 127.0.0.1 (this should be the loop back address for the server)
6. Fill in Sender name: and Sender email address:
7. Enable SMTP Authentication (Indicates the login name of the sender on the SMTP mail server)

III. Setup Recipients within Backup Exec. (see figure 3)
1. Open the Backup Exec console
2. Go to Tools > Recipients
3. Click New then select Person
4. In the Name category type the users name and check Enable
5. In the Address: dialog box fill in as the recipients e-mail address
6. Click Ok
