ERROR: Internal Error 2755. 1601, :\\x64\Symantec NetBackup.msi


Solution



Details:
While installing NetBackup 7.0 software on a Windows Server 2003 (32/64 bit) or Windows 2008 (32/64 bit) the following error is encountered:

Internal Error 2755. 1601, <drive>:\<media path>\x64\Symantec NetBackup.msi

Selecting the option to view the installation logs reports additional detail:

Workaround:

Option 1
If the Silent install method is not preferred, the following steps can be performed after the GUI installation has been started.
1.  Start the NetBackup install.
2.  Go to start menu, run %TEMP%
3.  Explorer will open the directory listing from the %TEMP% directory.  Right-click on the file LICENSE.htm and edit it with Notepad.
4.  Select all the contents of the file and erase it.
5.  Save file and continue with the installation.

Option 2
Instead of using the GUI method to perform the server installation, use the NetBackup script method, specifically:

silentmaster.cmd

This script is located on the installation media for NetBackup 7 in:
<path to image>\<media path>\x64\silentmaster.cmd
<path to image>\<media path>\x86\silentmaster.cmd

Use of this method requires editing certain fields within the silentmaster.cmd script, so the installation image should be copied on to a local file system or network share.

The following fields will need to be modified within the script to reflect the environment:
SET LICENSEKEY=Type key here
SET MASTERSERVER=This computer
SET EMMSERVER=masterserver
SET INSTALLDIR=C:\Program Files\VERITAS\    (if installing to location other than the default)

NOTE:  In the case of a NetBackup Client installation failing, adding the row "SET LICENSEKEY=Type key here" to the silentclient.cmd file will be necessary to get the silent install to work successfully.
