Getting "Fatal exception" error when running Symantec Installation Manager

Error

Error from the Symantec Installation Manager install log:
Exception Details: System.InvalidOperationException: This implementation is not part of the Windows Platform FIPS validated cryptographic algorithms.

Solution

This issue can occur if the requirement for FIPS compliant algorithm is enabled on the computer during the installation.  To workaround this issue, disable the requirement for FIPS compliant algorithms for the installation

1.  Go to Start > Control Panel
2.  Open Administrative Tools
3.  Open Local Security Policy
4.  Go to Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options
5.  Double-click "System cryptography: Use FIPS compliant algorithms for encryption, hashing, and signing" and then click Disabled.  Click OK.
6.  Close out of the Local Security Settings window
7.  Install the Symantec Installation Manager again

After the software successfully installs, the requirement for FIPS compliant algorithms may be Enabled again.
