Is the Microsoft Firewall blocking TCP port 445?


Solution



The Symantec Help Tool (SymHelp) reports that the Windows Firewall is blocking TCP port 445.

Port 445 is responsible for the Windows File and Printer sharing features.

While this port is not required for Symantec Backup Exec to backup remote servers, it is required for the following:

Remote installations of:
 
  • Symantec Backup Exec
  • Symantec Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers
  • Backup Exec System Recovery

 
Backup Destinations for:
 
  • Backup Exec System Recovery
  • Backup to Disk folders within Symantec Backup Exec
