What Has Been Done
A service pack for the Backup Exec Infrastructure Manager 12.5 product has been released which adds support for Backup Exec 2010.  This service pack update is limited to adding support for Backup Exec 2010, and does not include any additional features.  Note that the product name has not been updated as a part of this service pack; it remains Backup Exec Infrastructure Manager 12.5.

This service pack update to Backup Exec Infrastructure Manager includes the following capabilities:
· License reporting support for Backup Exec 2010
· Central deployment support of Backup Exec 2010 components
· Remote upgrade support from previous versions of Backup Exec to version 2010
· Patching support for Backup Exec 2010
· Inventory support of Backup Exec 2010 including its new features and options
· Reports updated to support Backup Exec 2010

Licensing
As this is a service pack update only, licensing for Backup Exec Infrastructure Manager remains the same.  Current users of Backup Exec Infrastructure Manager will not require a new license key.  The service pack update will install over the top of the existing product, which will remain activated/licensed. For existing customers, there will be no additional charge to gain this new functionality.

Timeframe
The update has been released and is currently available for download using the Symantec Installation Manager tool.

Availability
Current Customers
The update is only available electronically.  Current users of Backup Exec Infrastructure Manager can use the Symantec Installation Manager (SIM) utility to access and download the update.  It is listed as a download option in the Symantec Installation Manager application which can be downloaded and installed directly (refer to the instructions below for additional details).

New Customers
New customers who purchase Backup Exec Infrastructure Manager 12.5 should follow the instructions included with the product to install BEIM, and then install the update using the SIM application (which is included as part of the BEIM installation).

New customers of Backup Exec Infrastructure Manager also have the option of simply installing the service pack update using SIM, which will automatically install any other components that are not yet present on the system, including the Symantec Management Platform and the base version of Backup Exec Infrastructure Manager.

Trial Ware
Customers may also use the SIM application to download the software for evaluation purposes.  Backup Exec Infrastructure Manager will fully function in trial mode for 60 days without requiring a license key.

Electronic Download
To download the Backup Exec Infrastructure Manager product using the SIM application, follow these steps:
  • Visit the following web site:  http://www.symantec.com/business/products/trialware.jsp?pcid=pcat_business_cont&pvid=sm_suite_1
  • Under 'Trial Ware', select 'Server Management Suite'
  • Follow the instructions to download the Server Management Suite trial ware product (what will be delivered is the Symantec Installation Manager application)
  • Run SIM on the server to which the Backup Exec Infrastructure Manager product is or will be installed
  • Select from the list the latest version of the Backup Exec Infrastructure Manager Product
 
  • If additional components are required for Backup Exec Installation Manager, they will be downloaded and installed as well
 
  • Complete the remaining screens of the wizard to begin downloading Backup Exec Infrastructure Manager
