Problem
Unable to restore Public Folder items when using replica Public Folders.
Solution
When using Public Folder archiving within a replicated Public Folder environment, you may be in a position when performing a manual restore of an item within a Public Folder, this process never completes and the shortcut will remain as "Pending Restore".
An example configuration could be similar to this:-
EXCH1 and EXCH2 (Replica)
EXCH1 hosts a public folder
EXCH2 is a PF replication server
EV01 manages the Archiving Task for EXCH1
The restore attempt could be similar to this:-
- an item is posted onto EXCH1
- this item is then replicated to EXCH2
- Archiving runs against EXCH1 turning items to shortcuts
- Replication takes place, and the shortcut appears on EXCH2
- client attempts to restore an item from EXCH2
- item stays as Pending Restore
The Technote referenced at the bottom of this page shows a workaround that may be feasible if the Exchange environment permits.
