Running the Tracer.exe utility when attempting the same restore job from the same media reports the following error:

Cause



This error will reflect in restore job,when the corrupt tapes or defective tape drives with multiple hard read errors are used during backup.


Solution



1. Check to see if there was any hardware Event IDs with the date matching when the backup was done.

2. Make sure the hardware devices are at the latest firmware and driver level.

3.Check to see is there Multiple "hard" read or write errors indicate a problem with the tape drive ,if so try with different tape drive.

4 If still the same issue run future backups to different tape medium. If the issue persist contact the tape hardware vendor.
