Issue



Hyper-V Granular Recovery Technology (GRT) enabled backups to a remote Backup to Disk (B2D) location complete with exception "Failed to mount one or more virtual disk images: error mounting disk(s): UNKNOWN_ERROR (0x00084af)."


Error



Failed to mount one or more virtual disk images: error mounting disk(s): UNKNOWN_ERROR (0x00084af).

When attempting to run a Hyper-V backup to disk using GRT or APP GRT, the job completes with the exception (Figure 1):

Cause



This issue occurs if the backup to disk (B2D) destination is located on a remote share or NAS device.
 


Solution



This issue is Fixed in Backup Exec 2010 R2 version.

Workaround:

Utilize a locally attached backup to disk destination for the Hyper-V backup.
