Do you need to remajor the vxdmp driver so that FirstWatch or VERITAS Cluster Server can have transparent NFS failover?

Solution

The answer is no.

The reason this is the case is because the NFS file system is mounted on the volume device, which has a major number corresponding to the vxio driver.  This is the major number that NFS keeps track of.  When failing over, it is this number that needs to be identical on both machines.  Whether or not the vxdmp driver matches is irrelevant to NFS file system failover.
