Problem
When restoring one or several virtual disks (vmdk) in a VMware VM instead of entire VM, all vmdk in the VM are created and consume disk space
Cause
Symantec does not support excluding a VMDK from the backup or restore.
Solution
Workaround:
To work around this issue, perform one of the following:

- Use the Granular Recovery Technology (GRT) option. GRT can restore specific files and folders instead of entire virtual disk.
- Use the thin provisioning option with redirect restore. The thin provisioning option can disable disk consumption of the disks unexpectedly created.
