Problem
Backup jobs attempt to run multiple times when assigned via a Backup Exec System Recovery Management Solution (BESR-MS) policy. This in turn causes errors to appear in the application event logs on the client machines (Figure 1).
Figure 1:
NOTE 1: In most cases the scheduled backups are successful so this error can be considered as 'cosmetic'.
Figure 1:
NOTE 1: In most cases the scheduled backups are successful so this error can be considered as 'cosmetic'.
NOTE 2: In some cases this error can cause scheduled backups to be missed. You should check the schedule in the backup policy and check that recovery points exist in the backup destination folder for each day of the schedule.
NOTE 3: This issue has also been seen with the standalone Backup Exec System Recovery product.
Error
Info 6C8F17E7: An automatic recovery point was not created because an earlier recovery point from the same job was still in progress. Error EBAB03F1: Operation aborted.
Solution
The current temporary workaround is to unregister RPAM (rpam.dll) using the following command:
RegSVR32.exe /U "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\rpAccess\Rpam.dll"
NOTE: Once RPAM.DLL is unregistered, the machine in question will lose the ability to mount recovery points. This includes the ability to open recovery points using the Granular Restore Option (GRO). If mounting is required, re-register the DLL using the following command:
RegSVR32.exe "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\rpAccess\Rpam.dll"
NOTE: On 64bit operating systems, the path to RPAM.DLL is: \Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Symantec Shared\rpAccess64
This issue is resolved in Service Pack 4 (9.0.4) for Backup Exec System Recovery (BESR) 2010. SP4 is available via LiveUpdate, FileConnect (https://fileconnect.symantec.com/) and here: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH176813.
