Test Run job and Credential check of a SQL Resource fail with the error "Logon account provided does not have the privileges to backup the SQL DB" after applying Hotfix 346104.

Error

The logon account that was provided does not have the appropriate privileges to back up the SQL database . Either assign the appropriate privileges to this logon account, or use another logon account.

Solution

In Hotfix 346104, Test Run job credentials checking has been expanded to include checks to verify access to following resources:

  • Exchange Agent
  • Sharepoint Agent
  • NTFS file system backups
  • RALUS (Remote Agent for Linux)
  • RAMS (Remote Agent for Macintosh Systems)
  • Lotus Agent
  • AVVI Agent (Agent for VMware Virtual Infrastructure)
This feature was not added for the SQL agent thus causing the credentials check against the SQL instance to return incorrect results. For some other agents like Sharepoint agent the test specifically checks for domain admin permissions. This behavior is by design.

In case of the SQL agent, credentials check can be run against the server hosting the SQL databases.

Note: Even though the test job and credentials check will fail, the job will still run successfully.
