Problem
Internet Information Services (IIS) logging needs to be enabled for IIS 6.0 in order to troubleshoot issues with the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.
Solution
Enabling IIS logging is a two step procedure. Logging must first be enabled for the entire web site. It must then be enabled for the specific virtual directories which need to be logged.
Enabling Logging for the Symantec Web Server
- Click Start
- Click Administrative Tools
- Click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
- Expand the server name in the top-left
- Expand Web Sites
- Right-click Symantec Web Server
- Click Properties
- Put a checkmark in Enable logging
- Click Properties
- Note the log file directory location (Default: C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles)
- Note the log file name (Default: W3SVC2\exyymmdd.log)
- Click OK
- Click OK
Enabling Logging for the Symantec Web Server Virtual Directories
These steps begin inside the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager window which can be opened by following steps 1 through 5 (above). Perform the below steps on any virtual directory which needs logging enabled.
- Expand Symantec Web Server
- Right-click the virtual directory which needs logging enabled (example: content)
- Click Properties
- Put a checkmark in Log visits
- Click OK
Logging is now enabled. Please be sure to disable logging after it is no longer needed by reversing these steps.
