Issue

After running some updates, when trying to PXE boot clients the following errors are displayed:

PXE-E77: Bad or missing discovery server list.
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM

Further investigation of the Altiris Logs shoed that the RPC.ini file is missing.

Environment

Deployment Solution 7.1

Cause

For unknown reasons, file(s) were deleted and not replaced. It appears this may have been caused by the update. This is being further investigated.

Solution

The resolution to this issue is to run the following MSI files. This should regenerate the missing files.

altiris_deploymentsolutiontaskserverhandler_7_1_x86.msi

altiris_deploymentsolutiontaskserverhandler_7_1_kb51553_hf1_x86.msi

These can be found in the Altiris\Symantec Installation Manager\Installs\Altiris\ folder.

Run the "repair" option if available, you may need to run the install. We have also seen cases where the first MSI fails with an error that a required script is missing. Running the MSI again worked.
