Issue

Duplicates records are created in Notification Server / Deployment Solution 7.1 when booting a windows machine to linux automation.

Environment

Deployment Solution 7.1

Cause

A different UUID is sent to NS depending on the automation preboot used. Because the UUID is used to recognise the machine in Notification Server, and the linux and windows UUID differ, a new record is created in the NS for the system.  The same thing happens in reverse (i.e. you have a Linux managed computer and boot to WinPE).

Solution

Development is aware of the problem and is working on a solution.  Currently, the supported methods of imaging are to use WinPE for Windows based systems and LinuxPE for Linux based systems.  Possible work-arounds exist such as scripting the imaging task or modifying records in the console, but none of these are supported or recommended.

More information will be provided in this KB as development proceeds.
