NetBackup 7.0.1 Release Announcement
Solution
Dear NetBackup Customer:
I am pleased to inform you that Symantec NetBackup 7.0.1 GA released on August 31st, 2010.
New features in NetBackup 7.0.1 include:
Remote NDMP Multiplexing - The ability to multiplex multiple remote NDMP streams to a single tape drive.
Customer Benefit: Improve performance of NDMP backups by keeping tape media streaming during the backup process. Prevents tape shoe shining.
Client Offline (Enable/Disable) - Easily designate specific clients as being offline or unavailable for backup for a fixed period of time.
Customer Benefit: Reduce the amount of time troubleshooting failed backups that were known to be offline to begin with. Specific duration times can be set. When client expires ¿ will come back online and resume next incremental or full backup. Seamless to customer.
Audit Trails Phase 1 - Track policy changes and restore jobs. Will be CLI only for this release. Subsequent NetBackup release will leverage the OpsCenter interface.
Customer Benefit: Better understand who changed what policies and when. Also details who executed which restore jobs and what did they restore. When troubleshooting backup jobs - helps answer the question "what has changed"?
Hyper-V Cluster Support - Volume GUIDs are now supported in addition to drive letters
Customer Benefit: Volume GUIDs are often found in Hyper-V clusters
NDMP Deduplication Stream Handler - Intelligently manages the deduplication stream.
Customer Benefit: Provides for better, more consistent deduplication rates in NDMP environments.
New Proliferations in NetBackup 7.0.1 include:
Enterprise Vault 9 support - The NetBackup Server, Enterprise and Standard Client now includes full agent support for discovering, protecting and recovering EV 9 environments in the Netbackup at NO EXTRA CHARGE.
