Snapshot backup fails with status 11.  Job's Detailed Status tab includes the following error messages:

ERR - FIML_initialize_vxms failed (14)

Solution



The errors can be traced to a registry entry that specifies an incorrect location for the VxMS binaries.

Registry location on 64 bit systems:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\VERITAS\VxMS\InstallDir64

Registry location on 32 bit systems:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\VERITAS\VxMS\InstallDir32

By default, the VxMS binaries are located here:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\VERITAS\VxMS\

NOTE: Observe the trailing "\" on the above path. This is required, otherwise the backup will continue to fail with status 11.

Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.
