Symantec Enabled Arrays - Array Support Library and Array Policy Module for HP Storage Works 4000/6000/8000 (XL) and 4400/6400/8400 Enterprise Virtual Arrays (Active/Active-Asymmetric) on VERITAS Volume Manager 4.1MP1 and later for Solaris Sparc

Environment

Note that this ASL & APM are included as part of Storage Foundation 5.0 and later. These packages should not be installed on versions 5.0 and later.

Solution

This TechFile provides information about the Array Support Library (ASL) and Array Policy Module (APM) for HP Storage Works 4000/6000/8000 and 4400/6400/8400 Enterprise Virtual Arrays (Active/Active-Asymmetric) on VERITAS Volume Manager 4.1 MP1 and later for Solaris Sparc.

For general information about ASLs, see TechNote 249446 (link in the Related Documents section of this TechFile)
ASL Package Name: VRTSHP-EVA-asl
ASL Package Version: 1.3,REV=05.19.2010.15.15
APM Package Name: VRTSHP-EVA-apm
APM Package Version: 1.1,REV=11.14.2005.17.20
Supported versions of VERITAS Volume Manager: 4.1 MP1, 4.1MP2
Supported Arrays: HP Storage Works 4000/6000/8000 (XL) and 4400/6400/8400 Enterprise Virtual Arrays (A/A-A - Active/Active-Asymmetric)

Installation Instructions:
1. Create a directory to store the ASL-APM package
# mkdir /tmp/EVA_ASL_APM
# cd /tmp/EVA_ASL_APM

2. At the bottom of this TechFile, click on Download Now to download the package

3. After downloading VRTSHP-EVA_SunOSsparc_vm4.1MPx_v1.3.tar_356030.gz, verify the checksum of the file

# cksum VRTSHP-EVA_SunOSsparc_vm4.1MPx_v1.3.tar_356030.gz

2065320269      24629   VRTSHP-EVA_SunOSsparc_vm4.1MPx_v1.3.tar_356030.gz

4. Uncompress the file and extract the package

# gunzip VRTSHP-EVA_SunOSsparc_vm4.1MPx_v1.3.tar_356030.gz

# tar xvf VRTSHP-EVA_SunOSsparc_vm4.1MPx_v1.3.tar_356030

5. Before adding any package, ensure VERITAS Volume Manager is installed and enabled
# vxdctl mode
mode: enabled

6. Install the ASL
# pkgadd -d . VRTSHP-EVA-asl

7. Install the APM
# pkgadd -d . VRTSHP-EVA-apm

8. After the packages are installed, you must execute the vxdctl enable command to claim the disk array as an HP EVA array
# vxdctl enable
Note: In some cases, it has been reported that the installation of the ASL does not take effect, and vxdctl enable does not claim the enclosure and devices. In such cases, you can execute the vxconfigd -k command in addition to vxdctl enable.

9. After executing vxdctl enable, verify the output of the vxddladm listsupport and listversion commands
# vxddladm listsupport libname=libvxhpalua.so
ATTR_NAME            ATTR_VALUE
=======================================================================
LIBNAME              libvxhpalua.so
VID                  HP, COMPAQ
PID                  HSV101, HSV111 (C)COMPAQ, HSV111
                    HSV200, HSV210, HSV300
                    HSV400, HSV450
ARRAY_TYPE           A/A-A-HP
ARRAY_NAME           EVA3000, EVA5000, EVA4K6K
                    EVA8000, EVA4400, EVA6400
                    EVA8400

# vxddladm listversion libname=libvxhpalua.so
libvxhpalua.so has version string: vm-4.1-rev-3. VXVM version: 4.1

10. Also verify that the APM is in "Active" state in the O/P of vxdmpadm listapm command
# vxdmpadm listapm dmphpalua
Filename:               dmphpalua
APM name:               dmphpalua
APM version:            2
Feature:                VxVM
VxVM version:           40
Array Types Supported:  A/A-A-HP
Depending Array Types:  A/A-A
State:                  Active
