Error : Libstdc++.so.5. Cannot open shared object file : no such file or directory while loading shared libraries

Error

libstdc++.so.5. Cannot open shared object file : no such file or directory.

Solution

After installation of Linux agent on Ubuntu OS, beremote service fails to start.

Running command : ./beremote --log-console, will get the above mentioned error.
This error indicates that  libstdc++.so.5 is missing in the /usr/lib directory that helps the RALUS agent to start and function.

To resolve this issue, perform the following steps:
  • Download Debian package from link mentioned below to install the library module libstdc++5_3.3.6-17ubuntu1_amd64.deb or i386.deb depending on the server type (32bit or 64bit).
http://hsmak.wordpress.com/2009/12/01/how-to-fix-libstdc5-dependency-problem-in-ubuntu-9-10/
  • Copy file to Linux server using WINSCP.
  • Run command to install package: dpkg -i libstdc++5_3.3.6-17ubuntu1_amd64.deb.
  • Start beremote service using command : /etc/init.d/VRTSralus.init start
  • After the service is started.. make sure to browse the remote server in Backup exec selection list.
