Error



An error 1624 was encountered while trying to load the install package C:\WINDOWS\Installer\9218fcf.msi. Review the install log and contact your system administrator or re-run the setup with administrator privleges.

or

An error 1624 was encountered while trying to load the install package C:\Windows\Installed\ad389.msi. Review the install log and contact your system administrator or re-run the setup with administrator privileges.


 


Solution




If the error above occurs when trying to remove Continuous Protection Server (CPS), check the following registry key/value:
 
Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\8553FDDCB62DFB740A44BBD5AF17DA29\Transforms

 

Make sure that the 'Transforms' value does not have any erroneous characters in it (for example, like a " | " in front of the drive letter) and make sure the path is correct.  Attempt to remove CPS from "Add Remove Programs" again or run the CPS Setup.exe from the install media and select the 'Remove' option.
