CommandCentral Storage 5.1.2 Windows Hotfix to add support for discovery of FalconStor NSS.

Solution

Overview of the hotfix
--------------------------------

- Apply this bundle to enable discovery of FalconStor Arrays through Windows CommandCentral Storage (CCS) Management Server (MS) or Windows Management Host (MH) having Array Management and Switch Management capabilities (known as Control Host).

- Prerequisite for the CCS MS: Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2003 Server, or Windows 2008 Server that is at least running version 5.1.2 + HF F512001950096.

- Prerequisite for a Windows MH used for FalconStor array discovery: CCS version 5.1.2.

- No other MH needs to be upgraded.

Steps -
I)   Download the hotfix (HF).
II)  Install HF VRTSccs-F512002082436.tar.gz on the MS.
III) Install HF VRTSccs-F512002080723.tar.gz on both the MS and MH.
IV)  Go through 'Additional Notes' to know the setup requirements and process to configure FalconStor devices in CCS.

Install/Uninstall instructions:
-------------------------------

===============================================================
I) Download and extract the hotfix.
===============================================================

1. Download the hotfix "VRTSccs_5.1.2_win_FalconStor_patch.zip" to a temporary location such as C:\Temp.

2. Extract "VRTSccs_5.1.2_win_FalconStor_patch.zip".

3. Extract the output files "ccs-F512002080723.tar.gz" and "ccs-F512002082436.tar.gz".

4. Extract the output files "ccs-F512002080723.tar" and "ccs-F512002082436.tar".

5. The hotfix files available after all the extractions are:
- VRTSccs-F512002082436.tar.gz
- VRTSccs-F512002080723.tar.gz

===============================================================
II. Install HF VRTSccs-F512002082436.tar.gz on the CCS MS.
===============================================================

The following assumes that CCS has been installed on 32-bit server in the default installation directory.

1. To apply the hotfix on the CCS MS:

- CD to the CCS HAL bin directory.
> cd "C:\Program Files\VERITAS\CommandCentral Storage\HAL\bin"

- Run the following command to install the HF on MS.
> perl LocalUpgrade.pl C:\Temp\patches\VRTSccs-F512002082436.tar.gz

2. After deploying the hotfix, check the HF installation logs.

- Go to the CCS HAL Data directory.
> "C:\Program Files\VERITAS\CommandCentral Storage Data\Data\HAL\maint\VRTSccs-F512002082436\<time stamp>\output"

- Check if there are any errors in "stderr.txt".

- Check detailed logs of hotfix application in "stdout.txt".

3. Check the hotfix details in "cc_version.txt".

- Open "cc_version.txt" file present in below location.
> "C:\Program Files\VERITAS\CommandCentral Storage\Version"

- Check the FIXID and other details.
For example:
FIXID=F512002082436
DATE=Thu Jul  1 12:18:15 2010
DESCRIPTION=CC Storage 5.1.2 Management Server HotFix - FalconStor array support
REQUIRES=F512001950096
OBSOLETES=F512002042382

===============================================================
III. Install HF VRTSccs-F512002080723.tar.gz on MS and MH.
===============================================================

The following assumes that CommandCentral has been installed on 32-bit host in default installation directory.

This hotfix has to be applied on Windows MS or MH with Array Management and Switch Management capabilities (known as the Control Host)

1. To apply the hotfix on the CCS MS.

- Go to the CommandCentral HAL bin directory.
> cd "C:\Program Files\VERITAS\CommandCentral Storage\HAL\bin"

- Run the below command to install the HF.
> perl LocalUpgrade.pl C:\Temp\patches\VRTSccs-F512002080723.tar.gz

2. To push this hotfix to a MH, run the following commands from the MS.

- CD to the HAL bin directory
> cd "C:\Program Files\VERITAS\CommandCentral Storage\HAL\bin
> halsecurity login
You may have to provide the password for the 'admin' account which is used while logging in to the Console. Default password for this account is 'password' (without single quotes).

- Get a list of all the MH in a text file.
> perl CHMGetManagedHosts.pl -f C:\Temp\mhs.txt
Note: The mhs.txt created by running above command will have list of all MHs.  Edit this file to keep only names of those systems where HF has to be deployed.

- To deploy the HF on all systems listed in C:\Temp\mhs.txt, run the below command.
> perl PushUpgrade.pl -u C:\Temp\patches\VRTSccs-F512002080723.tar.gz -H C:\Temp\mhs.txt

3. After deploying the HF, check the HF install log on MS and relevant MHs.

- CD to the CCCS HAL Data directory.
> cd "C:\Program Files\VERITAS\CommandCentral Storage Data\Data\HAL\maint\VRTSccs-F512002080723\<time stamp>\output"

- Check if there are any errors in "stderr.txt".

- Check detailed logs of hotfix application in "stdout.txt".

4. Check the HF details in "cc_version.txt".

- Check "cc_version.txt" file present at the below location.
> cd "C:\Program Files\VERITAS\CommandCentral Storage\Version"

- Check the FIXID and other details.
For example:
FIXID=F512002080723
DATE=Thu Jul  1 12:10:48 2010
DESCRIPTION=Control Host -  FalconStor array  support over 5.1.2
REQUIRES=F512001896910

IV) Additional Notes:
===============================================================

1. Physical connection requirements for FalconStor Storage Systems:

To discover FalconStor Arrays, ensure that there is a physical network
connection between each array and the CommandCentral host that discovers the array.

2. CCS setup requirements to discover FalconStor Storage Arrays:

In the CCS Gui, click Tools > Configure a New Device.

In Configure Device, select Device Type panel, in the Device Type
drop-down list, click 'FalconStor NSS'. Click Next.

3. In 'Configure Device - Device Credentials' panel, enter the required
information of 'SMI-S CIMOM' being set and click Next:

- SMI-S CIMOM IP Address or Name:

- Username:

- Password:

- Enable Discovery: Check the check box to enable discovery of the array. This field is checked by default.

- Interop Namespace: Falconstor/Default

- Enable Monitoring

- Array Monitoring Interval (in minutes)

- Configuration Name: (Optional) Enter a user-friendly name to identify the
array.

- Verify Device Configuration: Mark the check box to verify that CommandCentral
Storage can contact the array with the information that you entered.

4. In the Advanced Settings set SMI-S Port to 5988 (or specify a non-default port)

5. In the Configure Device - Status panel, click Finish.
