Issue

Media is not correctly detected as available in a Storage Provisioning Option (SPO) device after restarting a media server.

Solution

If the Devices section of the Backup Exec Administration Console is reviewed for the content of the SPO Virtual Disk devices before and after a reboot of the media server then it can be seen that a number of media items will no longer be listed as present in the device. Additionally, the Media Set listing will show the media marked as Offline.

A restore job run in this state will be unable to find the media it requires for the restore.

Note:

This problem is resolved in Backup Exec 2010 R2 Hotfix 154003 (http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH154003) and Backup Exec 2010 R3

Workaround:

Whenever a Media Server configured with SPO is rebooted, allow time for all services and processes to start and then restart the "Backup Exec Device & Media Service" (which will restart additional Backup Exec services).
