You want to know whether Rosetta is required to install or use Symantec Antivirus for Macintosh (SAV for Mac) 10.2.3, or the Symantec Administration Console for Macintosh (SACM) Client daemon required for communication to a SACM server.

Attempting to install SAV for Mac 10.2.3 on a machine running Mac OS X 10.6.x, you are advised you must install Rosetta first:

Symantec AntiVirus can't be installed on this computer.
The Rosetta software component must be installed before you install Symantec AntiVirus.  Rosetta is an optional installation item on the Mac OS X Snow Leopard installation disc.  Alternatively, you can use Software Update and your internet connection to install Rosetta.  To access Software Update, open any PowerPC application in Snow Leopard.

When you click on Close, the SAV installer then quits.

Alternately, after installing the SACM Client daemon under Mac OS X 10.6.x (Snow Leopard) or migrating an existing environment running the SACM Client daemon to Mac OS X 10.6.x there are a significant number of entries in the Mac OS X crash log. The SACM Client software may also not function as expected and may stop communicating with the SACM console.

The installer for SAV for Mac and the SACM Client daemon have Rosetta dependencies.  Mac OS X 10.6.x does not install Rosetta by default.

Install Rosetta to allow the PowerPC code that the SAV for Mac installer and the SACM Client daemon use to allow the software to run without error and allow the workstation to communicate back to the SACM Console running under Mac OS X Server.  Rosetta can be installed directly off the Mac OS X 10.6.x install DVD in the Optional Installs folder, or via Software Update by launching a PowerPC application in Snow Leopard.

NOTE: The SAV for Macintosh 10.2.3 application itself does not have Rosetta dependencies.  Symantec Endpoint Protection for Macintosh (SEP for Mac), installer or application, does not have Rosetta dependencies.
