Issue



Duplicate backups of VMware virtual environments including template backup selections fails with the designated errors going to disk or tape using the Backup Exec Agent for VMware Virtual Infrastructure (AVVI).


Error



Drive and media mount requested: 5/24/2010 5:45:58 AM V-79-57344-33029 - Error - Mount failed. Invalid Physical Volume Library Media Identifier. Media GUID: {1FE68260-9D2B-40BD-8822-FF3B29286816} V-79-57344-33029 - Unable to acquire device for the specified pool and media Invalid Physical Volume Library Media Identifier.


Solution



WORKAROUND:

  1. Remove all VMware template selections from the current AVVI backup and duplicate jobs
  2. Create a new backup job, selecting just the VMware templates and send the original backup destination
  3. Create a new backup job, selecting just the VMware templates and send the backup to the duplicate destination

Solution:

This issue is resolved in Backup Exec 2010 R2 Hotfix 145462 (TECH145462)
