Technical Solution

After launching the NetBackup 7.0.1 Windows Remote Administration Console and clicking into Activity Monitor, a pause of about two minutes is followed by a pop-up message:

Unable to connect to the Enterprise Media Manager server: MyHost.
Unable to connect to the EMM server (77)

Log Files:
The <install_path>\NetBackup\Logs\nbconsole log shows a series of these messages, documenting each connection attempt:

13:04:42.682 [14288.17920] <2> Orb::connectToObject: Connection attempt #59 mW:60 rW:0(Orb.cpp:1097)

There is an change in behavior starting in NetBackup 7.0.1 which requires the Master Server be listed in the SERVER list on the Windows Remote Administration Console.

The workaround for this is as follows:

1. Open the registry on the machine running the Windows Remote Administration Console 7.0.1 and navigate to HKLM\Software\Veritas\NetBackup\CurrentVersion\Config.

2. Locate the key named 'Server'.

3. Edit the key and add the name of the desired Master Server into a new row. If multiple Master Servers are administered from this NetBackup Remote Administration Console, add a new row for each unique Master Server.

Once complete, a newly launched NetBackup Remote Administration Console should no longer produce an error when navigating into Activity Monitor.

Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor can have disastrous results on a server operating system. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is highly recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.

Formal Resolution:
The formal resolution for this issue (Etrack 2112063) is scheduled to be included in the following release:
