Issue



When attempting to backup a virtual guest machine with Backup Exec 2010 R2 the error message below occurs.

However, Backup Exec 12.5 using VMware Consolidated Backup (VCB) work successfully with the credential provided.

 


Error



Final error: 0xe0009b61 - The logon account that was provided does not have valid credentials. Ensure that the user name and password are correct, and then try again.

Cause



Vmware vCenter was not properly added to the VMware vCenter and ESX Servers list of the backup job on the Backup Exec media server

 


Solution



  1. On the Backup Exec media server, click the arrow next to Backup on the navigation bar
     
  2. Click New Backup Job.
     
  3. Right-click VMware vCenter and ESX Servers
     
  4. Click Manage VMware vCenter and ESX Servers.
     
  5. In the Name field, type the name of the VCenter server administrating the virtual guest that this backup job is to be use for.
     
  6. Click Add.
     
  7. Click Close
     
  8. Expand the vCenter and navigate to the virtual machine
    Note: if prompted for an account; use an vCenter admininstrator account.
     
  9. Select the virtual machine to be backup.
     
  10. Complete the backup job with any additional settings options that are needed.
