Problem
When backing up Exchange 2007/2010 in virtual environment the backup fails with the error "Resources specified for snapshot do not have any valid data on them. Check if files were deleted or renamed".
Error
V-79-57344-34070 - AOFO: Initialization failure on: "Microsoft Information Store". Advanced Open File Option used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).
Snapshot provider error (0xE0008516): Resources specified for snapshot do not have any valid data on them. Check if files were deleted or renamed.
Check the Windows Event Viewer for details.
Remote agent debug output,
[3528] [nrds] - Could not create a BETCPConnection object from address: SDC1-2K8-EXCH1 error=An error occurred during a socket connect operation: Error Code: 10061, System Error Message: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.
[3528] [ndmp\ndmpcomm] - NrdsAdvertiserThread: connect to target=SDC1-2K8-EXCH1 port=6101 failed
Environment
X64 2008 Standard/Enterprise Edition SP 1/2 Exchange 2007/2010 Visualized.
Cause
The remote agent debug out put from the remote server Exchange 2007/2010 do not list "bedsexese.dll" but shows "bedsmbox.dll". This shows the remote agent on the Exchange 2007/2010 is not installed properly & "bedsmbox.dll" is corrupt or missing.
Solution
Check the backup selections list to find is Exchange IS/DB are properly listed. If the Exchange IS/DB are not listed in Backup selections list in GUI but reflects fine in resource order & the remote agent debug out put shows as follows,
[3528] Could not create a BETCPConnection object from address: SDC1-2K8-EXCH1 error=An error occurred during a socket connect operation: Error Code: 10061, System Error Message: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.
[3528] NrdsAdvertiserThread: connect to target=SDC1-2K8-EXCH1 port=6101 failed
Solution:-
Uninstalling the remote agent from the Exchange 2007/2010 server & reinstalling again re-registers the "bedsexese.dll" again & should see the Exchange IS/DB in the Backup Selections list.
