Backup of Drives through Backup Exec System Recovery fails With error “snapshot %1 ebab03f1:os error 2147754776”

Diagnosis
1.       Checked The following services exist and are in manual startup mode.
-          Microsoft software shadow copy provider.
-          Symantec SymSnap VSS Provider.
-          Volume Shadow Copy.
 
2.       Try to start All the services manually all the services should start without any error.
 
3.       Run vssadmin list writersin Command prompt(Start-> Run, Type cmd, Type vssadmin list writers ).
Checked the that All writers appear and are in stable state.

Cause



1.       The above listed services are not present.

2.       All the services are available but not responding in timely fashion while starting.

3.       All the services are available and are able to start correctly however vssadmin list writers gives Error: 0x8000FFFF (This problem occur if the following registry key is corrupted: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\EventSystem\{26c409cc-ae86-11d1-b616-00805fc79216}\Subscriptions).

 


Solution



 Kindly follow the below given steps to resolve the above mentioned causes. Once the above mentioned errors are fixed, vssadmin list writers commond should give you all the writers listed with stable status. After that running backup again using BESR should give you sucessful backup.

1.       If the above listed services are not present.
-          Go to Command Prompt(Start-> Run, Type cmd).
-          Navigate to system32 folder by running cd /d %windir%\system32
Run the following Command from the system32 folder in command prompt.
-          Net stop vss
-          Net stop swprv
-          regsvr32 ole32.dll
-          regsvr32 oleaut32.dll
-          regsvr32 vss_ps.dll
-          vssvc /register
-          regsvr32 /i swprv.dll
-          regsvr32 /i eventcls.dll
-          regsvr32 es.dll
-          regsvr32 stdprov.dll
-          regsvr32 vssui.dll
-          regsvr32 msxml.dll
-          regsvr32 msxml3.dll
-          regsvr32 msxml4.dll
NOTE : SOME OF THE dll’s MAY FAIL TO REGISTER AS THE RESPECTIVE SOFTWARES WON’T BE INSTALLED MOSTLY IN CASE OF msxml.
-          Reboot the server.
-          Check the above services they should reappear.
 
2.       If all the services are available but not responding in timely fashion while starting.
-          The Troubleshooting for this issue has to be done depending on the error that services give on while starting.
 
3.       If all the services are available and are able to start correctly however vssadmin list writers gives Error: 0x8000FFFF.
 
-          Click Start, click Run, type Regedit, and then click OK.
-          Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\EventSystem\{26c409cc-ae86-11d1-b616-00805fc79216}\Subscriptions
-          On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click Yes to confirm that you want to delete the subkey.
-          Exit Registry Editor.
-          Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
-          Right-click the following services one at a time. For each service, click Restart:
o   COM+ Event System
o   COM+ System Application
o   Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider
o   Volume Shadow Copy
-          Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
-          At the command prompt, type vssadmin list writers, and then press ENTER.
-          If the VSS writers are now listed, close the Command Prompt window. You do not have to complete the remaining steps. 

If the VSS writers are not listed, type the following commands at the command prompt. Press ENTER after each command.
-          cd /d %windir%\system32
-          net stop vss
-          net stop swprv
-          regsvr32 ole32.dll
-          regsvr32 oleaut32.dll
-          regsvr32 /i eventcls.dll
-          regsvr32 vss_ps.dll
-          vssvc /register
-          regsvr32 /i swprv.dll
-          regsvr32 es.dll
-          regsvr32 stdprov.dll
-          regsvr32 vssui.dll
-          regsvr32 msxml.dll
-          regsvr32 msxml3.dll
-          regsvr32 msxml4.dll
Note The last command may not run successfully.
-          At the command prompt, type vssadmin list writers, and then press ENTER.
-          Confirm that the VSS writers are now listed and try running the backup again.
