Cannot install NetBackup 7.0 client software on a Windows 2003 system


Error



From the NBU install log:
09-21-2010,21:51:47 :  Entering CallAtPostInstallDll custom action.
09-21-2010,21:51:47 :  D:\Program Files\Veritas\\NetBackup\bin\vrtsAtPostInstall.dll does not exist. No need to proceed.
09-21-2010,21:51:48 :  Entering CacheInstallFiles custom action, commit phase.
09-21-2010,21:51:48 :  System Error: 3, The system cannot find the path specified.
09-21-2010,21:51:48 :  Could not copy cab file to installer cache directory. See above error. Returning with error.
09-21-2010,21:51:48 :  Action 21:51:48: Rollback. Rolling back action:

Wed Sep 22 2010 15:00:44 MsiInstaller I11708 Product: Symantec NetBackup Client -- Installation operation failed.  
 


Environment



Windows 2003 Enterprise Server SP2


Solution



If the site attempts to reinstall the NetBackup 7.0 client software, it will prompt the site to either Modify/Repair/or Remove.

If the site selects Repair, the NetBackup installation will complete and site is able to perform successful backups/restores.

If the site selects Modify or Remove with a reinstall of the NetBackup client, it will continue to fail.
