The Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) uses Apache Tomcat as one of its components.  You need to know the version of Tomcat that is installed with Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM).

Solution

The Tomcat component built into the SEPM is updated with periodic releases of SEP.  (The SEP 11 branch initially used Tomcat 4.x, and the SEP 12.1 branch uses Tomcat 6.0.29 and above.  Information on updates can often be found in the release notes.)  It is recommended to always use the latest release of SEP to take advantage of the latest enhancements and improvements.

There are two ways to confirm the exact release of Tomcat in use.

Solution 1:

Look in the <SEPM install folder>\tomcat\logs\catalina.out file. The line which contains the Tomcat version should be in the first six lines of the file. The following lines are from a RU6a Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM).

Sep 29, 2010 1:17:01 PM org.apache.coyote.http11.Http11BaseProtocol init INFO: Initializing Coyote HTTP/1.1 on http-9090 Sep 29, 2010 1:17:04 PM org.apache.coyote.http11.Http11BaseProtocol init INFO: Initializing Coyote HTTP/1.1 on http-8443 Starting service SCM Apache Tomcat/4.1.39

Solution 2:

You can also find the version of Tomcat in this JAR file: <SEPM install folder>\tomcat\server\lib\catalina.jar.

Use a tool capable of unzipping JAR files and look in the file org\apache\catalina\util\lib\ServerInfo.properties. The following line is from the ServerInfo.properties file within a catalina.jar file on a RU6a SEPM.

server.info=Apache.Tomcat/4.1.39
