Issue

Does the Symantec Endpoint Protection for Mac (SEP for Mac) product support Location Awareness?

Solution

Support for Location Awareness in the SEP for Macintosh product was introduced in the 12.1 release. SEP 11.x for Macintosh does not support the Location Awareness feature.

The Macintosh SEP client supports the following criteria for location switching:

  • Computer IP Address
  • Gateway Address
  • DNS Server Address
  • DHCP Server Address
  • Network Connection Type
  • Management Server Connection
  • DNS Lookup
  • Wireless SSID
  • DHCP Connection DNS Suffix
  • ICMP Request (Ping)

... and does NOT support the following criteria for location switching (Which are listed in SEPM Location Criteria UI and applicable only to Windows):

  • Trust Platform Module
  • Registry Key
  • WINS Server
  • NIC Description
