Prerequisites for performing Disaster Recovery of the Backup Exec Deduplication Storage Folder

Environment

Backup Exec 2010

All Supported Platforms for Backup Exec 2010

Solution

Built-in writers are available for Deduplication which allow a backup of the Deduplication Storage Folder. The Deduplication Storage Folder can be backed up by selecting the Microsoft Shadow Copy Components / User Data / Backup Exec Deduplication Storage node from the Backup Exec Selection List.

The following prerequisites need to be met for the Disaster Recovery of Deduplication Storage Folder :

  1. The Backup Exec Server should have the same Server Name and IP Address as it was before the disaster.
  2. The Deduplication Storage Folder should be created using the same account with which it was created earlier.
  3. The drive letter and directory structure of Deduplication Storage Folder should be same as it was before the disaster.

After the above conditions are met, restore the Deduplication Storage Folder contents by restoring USER DATA under the Microsoft Shadow Copy Components. Once the restore job has finished successfully reboot the Media Server and recreate the deduplication storage folder in the Backup Exec user interface and pointing it to the location of Deduplication Storage and Deduplication Database.
