Issue

When Exchange 2007 is installed in a separate domain than the media server, GRT restore of mailbox items fails with below given error. However the backup jobs are successful.

Error

0xe000848c - Unable to attach to a resource. Make sure that all selected resources exist and are online, and then try again

Cause

This issues occurs when there is a Non-Transitive External Trust between the domains. The backup will complete but restore fails. Adding a system logon account from the Exchange servers domain will not authenticate and the media server domain's system logon account will give an access is denied.

Solution

  • Establish a two-way transitive trust between the two domains.
  • Add the Exchange Server's administrator account to the local admins groups on the Backup Exec Media Server.
